"Anyone heard of Maxalt or am I the last one to find out about it?"

My insurance pulled the plug on Fiorinal. (Can you believe it? Said no one should take it for more that 3 months. I've been on it for 15 YEARS. And no I am not a walking time bomb since I went off of it.) Anyway, I was also on Imitrex and it was a god send, but I did have to lay down for at least one hour if I took it for it to be effective. Enter Maxalt. My headache doctor said it was the newest and according to all his patients the best of the triptans. Well, so far so good. I haven't heard anyone else talking about it, so I wondered if anyone else was having success with it. I certainly am. Hope everyone has a pain free day.

Do you mean Maxmelt ? Possibly called Maxalt in the USA ( I am in the UK ). Melts on ones tongue.
I tried it for a month or two and decided I prefered Imigran as it is available in half strength capsules as well as ful strength. I suggest you try it.

Is Imigran the same as Imitrex?

"Maxalt"

I've been using Imitrex (injectables work best for me, nasal spray was mediocre at best) and it does work best if I can lay down for at least an hour....I've tried Maxalt for quite a while as well. Maxalt MLT (melts under the tongue and gets into the bloodstream fairly quickly) worked better for me than the regular tabs. Both of these version only helped if I caught the migraine coming on very early and if it's not one of those really nasty ones...so in the long run it doesn't seem worth it for me if I can only abort the occasional migraine...but you might as well try it!

I have had great results with maxalt. I have tried imatrex, with worse results in pain, zomg, which did nothing, and even DHE shots which I had to give myself IM, and with very little luck. So far the maxalt is doing the job for the medium headache, I still have to get something stronger for the really bad ones once a month or so. I hope they keep working. I have been on them about a year.

I tried Maxalt. Worked Great for (Like other meds) awhile then nothing... also you had to catch the migraine early because if it was already full blown you might as well hang it up. I have heard amerge is a new drug also but it did not work for me. good luck!!

My sister has been using Maxalt for about a year. She swears by it. So far she is lucky and only has the occasional twice a month migraine, whereas mine never seem to go away, just vary in degree. I haven't tried it. I stick to Zomig. I hope it works well for you! Kathy

My doctor just prescribed Maxalt for me -- Imitrex didn't work for me; it not only triggered heart palpitations and hyperventilating, it didn't do a thing for the headache. I took my first Maxalt last night for a migraine that had been hanging around for three days (not full-blown pain, but a throbbing at the temple and base of my skull that nothing else would shake) and it WORKED. It was disorienting, made me tired and slowed my down a lot, but I went right to bed and woke up this morning feeling...wow...it's really gone...woohoo! Hope it works for you.

Maxalt seems to work somewhat for me. It seems to work much faster than a pill (MLT). However a shot of imitrex is generally what I reach for first

Re: fiorinal-- I don't know where you live, but I'm in California. Every time I go to Mexico or have family who vacation there I pick up a bottle of 100 tablets of fiorinal. It's about twenty bucks and I don't take it very often (picked up my last bottle in Nov 99 and just ran out of it last week)so I'm not worried about abuse. There are reputable, licensed pharmacy shops that have prescription meds over the counter in Mexico (maybe other countries too). Drug companies know that they can bleed the American public up here with the high cost of prescription medicine so why not outsmart them? Good luck.

I also have been taking Fiorinal for over 15 years. I have suffered damage to my stomach and my esophagus as a result of the long term use. Haven't heard of Maxalt.

Took Maxalt for the first time about two weeks ago when I woke up with a headache, although I still had to rest in a dark quiet room for a few hours. I was able to get up and go into work that day. I was amazed. Midrin didn't work and Imitrex nasal spray only made me more sick to my stomach. My insurance co will pay for Maalt also.

I have been taking them regularly - once or twice a week - but think they may be affecting my 'mood' - am I alone in this?
