"Not a movie, but a story"
There's a collection of short fiction by Siri Hustvedt called "The Blindfold" with a story about a woman who suffers from migraines and spends a week in the hospital because of them. The story is really about the woman she shares a room with, but the descriptions of pain, drug reactions, uncaring doctors, etc., is right on the nose.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to get that book. If it's really good, I'll give it to my FORMER neurologist! haha

There's a scene where the protagonist figures out that her neurologist (who's supposed to be some major hotshot) is MAD at her because she's not getting better. In other words, his treatments aren't working, but the only thing he can think about is how it makes him feel inadequate. So it has to be her fault. Haven't we all soooooo been there?

Dear Jamie,
I must be the biggest bookworm around, so I have to get this book, it sounds really "on the Ball"
is it based on fact or is it fiction? Can you tell me who publishes it please.
Thanks for the info
regards gvanbeek

I plan to go out and get this book too. Or stay in, depending on how I feel, since it's on Amazon I looked it up, it's only $11 there. Thanks for sharing this with us!!

This story has also been anthologized in BEST AMERICAN FICION OF 1991 (or 1992). I have to say that after reading it, I realized that I saw the same doctor (at Mt. Sinai in NYC). This doctor shared his special medical cocktail with me--with disastrous results. Talk about over-medication! He wanted me to take Librium, Elavil and a Beta Blocker 3x a day--for migraines with muscle-contraction pain. My mouth tasted of tin, and I fell sound asleep at work, and on the subway...and my migraines didn't get any better.
