"Imitrex shot and pills"
Hi all, I hope you had better weekend than mine... I have had a migraine for 9 days straight now (with 2-3 hrs break a day). I went to get the Imitrex shot on Friday. It did help temporary, only on next day . I am getting Imitrex pills today. Have you had them before? I have the regular headache today again. I don't remember what was not to have it. Tired of not enjoying life, my dog, the weather, my boyfriend, everything. Not fun to live like that...

1. "imitrex"
i take imitrex tablets and I cannot be without them. They are extremely expensive but, I have to sacrifice. I go through a lot of them and I know it is not good to take so many, but, I have found they are the only thing (abortives) that work for me. Once I take it, within about 40minutes the headache stops. In the old days, before imitrex, I had to endure the headaches all day (about 8 hours) before they subsided. I am thankful for imitrex and I dont mind the side effects. There are side effects like drowsiness (despite what the tv commercials tell you) sore/dry throat, etc. But, I figure it is worth it if I can get rid of the migraine that fast. its better than spending 8 hours in bed like I used to have to do. I definitely recomend them, unless you have uncontrolled high blood pressure. They tend to raise the blood pressure, but, I am taking blood pressure med and my doctor thinks it is safe.

Hi!

I take the Imitrex shot as well, and it does get rid of the pain fairly quickly. As with you, however, it sometimes comes back the next day. The Imitrex pills are also effective in the 100mg. dose for me. I used to take the 50mg. pills, and they lost effectiveness after about a year.

I don't know what dosage you got, but if it's 50mg. and doesn't work, you might ask your doctor about the 100mg. I find them as effective as the shot, but they just take a little longer to work--maybe 45 minutes.

Good luck to you!
Jerrie
