"weaning off inderal"
anyone weaned off inderal and had horrible headaches? I have been weaning off it for 10 days and have felt grenades going off in my head. I have literally been eating imitrex. Dont know if this if normal from going off the preventative or if this if because of taking too much imitrex. Any one else do this ?

I only took Inderal for 6 weeks so what my experience might not be valid. The Inderal did not affect my migraines one way or another. It might have if I had taken it longer, but I couldn't tolerate the side effects. I didn't wean off it, just stopped it completely one day. Migraine frequency did not increase after I stopped it.

I think it's general for titrating off of beta blockers...

I was off of Atenolol, another beta for a couple days and my head hurt really, really bad. The instant that I could take it again, a severe level 8 was gone in about 1.5 hours.

When I stopped taking inderal I got one of the worst migraines ever. why are you going off it? It decreased my heart rate and lowered my bp.
Hope things get better!

I weaned off nadolol (another beta blocker) and did it very slowly. I was on half the minimum dose to start with and I taperd off by going one week half my dose every other day with a full dose in between. Then I went to half my original dose every day for a week. Then 1/4 the original dose every other day for a week with half the original dose in between, then 1/4 the dose every day for a week, then 1/4 every other day with nothing in between for a week, and finally nothing.

I lasted about 2 months before I went back on it for migration prevention (they got really bad again, not right away but eventually). I am trying to stay at half my original dose (1/4 the minimum dose) and so far it has been a struggle (headache wise) but I am managing more or less.

Good luck, it takes time to get off drugs like that.

I used Inderal and Elavil...I gained tons of weight and it didn't help my head pain at all. I did not have any trouble going off of the Inderal...my head was so bad at that point I had gotten to the point where I thought not much of anything could make my head feel better or worse.

I have never used either of those products since so I have no idea of what would happen on subsequent trials of either med.

I do hope that you get some relief from your unrelenting head pain....I am sorry that any of us has to suffer from this awful disease.
