Anna's Mom	Dec-06-09, 07:25 PM (CMT)
"Surgery Tomorrow "
Anna will have surgery tomorrow to place an ICP monitor on her brain. Her intracranial pressure will be recorded for two to three days. The equipment to do this is in ICU, so that's where we'll be. It's a pretty simple surgery, and the risk is low. She had this done last year, and it's not as bad as some other brain surgeries she has had. Surgery is at 7:30. A.M. (central time). We will have to get up at 3:00 A.M. Yikes! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers Cheryl

Much love, many thoughts & prayers, and good vibes coming y'alls way from the Tarheel state. Erin 27 y/o w/hydrocephalus w/2 VPs--last shunted 4/20/05; 12 surgeries total, migraines diagnosed 5/13/05; Type 2 diabetes diagnosed 8/3/04--multiple med combinations over the yrs. & such--complications too; sensorineural hearing loss since 1990--rt. ear--severe deafness

	Tough to get an IV in--it took four people to do it with multiple attempts. Surgery went fine. Her opening pressure was 12-14. I don't know why it has dropped so much since her LP in June. But we have three days of recording data ahead of us. Then I'll send the results to the neuroradiologist at Duke who is so knowledgeable about ICP issues. Thanks for your kind words! This is very tough, and Anna is in some terrible pain. Her face is so swollen she can't even open her eyes. Cheryl

Hopefully as from today she will be free from all pain and better and better from now on - all smiles and full of energy! jumping jacks and what not, lolol Risa You re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

	If I don't talk to you tomorrow before you leave, please have a safe drive home. I know the roads have been nasty in Chicago and I am sure they are not much better there. Hopefully the storm will have passed and the roads will be cleared.

	We came home today, and the snow wasn't too bad in the Twin Cities. This was just some very expensive testing, and it showed normal pressure for Anna. So there really isn't anything that will come out of it, with her specific results. We ruled out high pressure, and that is all. There aren't any answers right now for the ever increasing head pain she has. You guys are the best. Cheryl
