"Triptans belly ache"
Never used to occur but my Migards are giving me belly ache from about an hour after I take them for 4 or 5 hours or so.
Seem to be getting more side effects and less help.
Time for a change of triptan maybe....
Anyone else get belly ache....not upset, but it could be gas....either way its not every time, but who needs it....not me.

Hi Pen,

Yes, I started getting really bad belly aches from Imitrex three years ago. I had taken Imitrex for 8 or so years prior to that.

It was horrible. I took the Imitrex back to the drug store thinking it was the batch of pills I received. No dice. It was me.

For some reason from that point forward I could no longer take a triptan. I was 53 years old at that time. I was thinking it was my age.

I really do not know why that happened to me but I am glad I no longer take them. It was making my blood pressure go up but I never knew it until I stopped taking Imitrex.

Maybe you will be different but the stomach pain I got lasted for 8 to 9 hours. It was horrible and I could not work with the pain.

I am sorry to tell you this but maybe you will be different.

I took Imitrex almost everyday before this.

Good luck to you and I am on the new forum so if you need to "talk" more I can be reached there at my same name.

Triptans are not for me. I have tried maybe 4 or 5 different ones. They abort the migraine nicely, however I always get a migraine when they wear off after 24 to 36 hours. If I take another then, when that one wears off (faster then the first one) then the migraine starts again. And my triptan migraines are worse than my non medicated migraines.

These days I take nothing to get through a migraine. Not fun, but I get less headaches and migraines this way. Seems like I am pre-programmed these days to have so many hours of headache/suffereing and abortives just delay the inevitable.

baad,

hopefully topamax will help you. the more i take it the more results i see.
the frequency of my migraines have changed a bit but more than that they are less painful.
i'd say from an 8-9 every time to about a 4-5 (on a 1-10 scale of pain)

I feel you on the triptans not working, as i've tried a few and
they dont work for me either, although i dont get rebounds from them.
i'd like to try some more, but we'll see.

And as for stomach pain with triptans, i dont know if this counts
but i had some wicked abdominal cramps (similar to menstral pains)
from imitrex. It wasn't nausea, but it was HORRIBLE!
I'm sorry to hear your suffering!!!
