OMG, I've got the exact same pain on the left side of my head and neck. It feels like my muscle is sore and that I need to crack my neck, but the left side of my forehead is also really hurting. This type of pain is new to me (I get the classic migraines w/aura).......DARN MIGRAINES!

yes my neck feels like it needs to crack and if i move my head up it does crack but no relief. its moving up into my jaw. this is not the "usual" predome i guess, but i dont know what is considered usual anymore.
i am feeling rather depressed right now. i feel inadequate and unable to contribute much to my marraige. my husband cannot understand that even if i look well enough on a day like today when i dont have icepacks on my head and hugging the toilet (yet) that is is not possible for me to go out and exercise bc/the sunlight and physical exersion would make me feel 10times worse than if I sat in the quiet dark house and tried to clean up bit-by-bit to at least feel productive and the exchange left me feeling worse off than I did when I originally posted this thread.
My how this site has become a support system for me. Thanks for the replies

Serena, I completely understand your depression and frustration. Although my husband is sympathetic when I go to the ER, he doesn't really understand that I live with some sort of head pain every single day. He's NEVER had any type of headache in his whole life. It's frustrating, depressing and is so unfair that we have to deal with these migraines.

This is interesting. I'm glad I saw this thread, as I was just about to ask about this neck and creeping migraine thing. I get migraines on both sides. The ones on the right travel down from the top of my head, into my temple and behind the eye, into my jaw, into my neck (yep! feels like if I just crack it, the tightness and pain will go away, but it never does), across my shoulder, and sometimes even down into my shoulder blade. The other day, one started in my neck, hung out there awhile, and then cruised up and down before settling into my temple, eye socket, etc. I'm glad to have a reality check from you all (part of me thought I was imagining things, because the migs on the other side act quite a bit differently). Sorry about the depression, Serena, et al. Sometimes I wish my husband understood better, too. He kind of "gets it" but kind of doesn't. And of course he can hang outside in the bright desert sun all he wants, or stay indoors and read his freakin' eye balls out of their sockets for hours in really bad light and never even get the whisper of a tension headache. (I can't help it--it ticks me off no end sometimes.)--Morgan

thanks i needed the reality check too - i am not used to this kind of HA. I took a phenergan for nauea and feel like i can't keep my eyes open much longer. Can't tell of my eys are drroopy and fuzzy from my head or from meds. I have been sleeping alot lately. HMmmm that coincides w/increase in my neurontin. Sure that contributes to this fog in my brain today
My husband is great but i rarely write all the wonderful suuportive stories about him stadning by my side - this is my space to vent I ams ure yo u know what i mean. i hope my mig HA doesn't explode instead just fizzles out.. keep you posted ~s~

Yes I know exactly what your talking about regarding the pain in the shoulder, neck, occipital region of the head, jaw (right down into the roots of my teeth) temple and eye socket. I was seeing a chiropractor up to twice a week for a year to see if manipulation of the neck and back vertibrae would lessen or eliminate this pain. The interesting thing that I found out when I eliminated Migraines via the hypoglycemia diet was that I still got this pain, infact as I monitored my blood sugar I found out that this came on immediately when my blood sugar dropped below a threshold of about 75 mg/dL.Again it is not a migraine however, it became the first sign that a mig was on the way, and if I took preventative steps- food and a couple Vanquish or Excedrine, and maybe lie down for 20 min. i could avoid the migraine. Most of the time the pain would then go away completely. If I failed to take preventative steps, i would go directly into aura (flashing lights, sweating above the brow and repeated shallow yawning), and then WAM! migraine.
BTW- I have come to know this pain as Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) and that it is caused by irritation of the trigeminal nerve.
My source of irritation was the low blood sugar condition which irritates and even damages nerve tissue. This of course includes the brain tissue.
By eliminating the low blood sugar condition, the nerves gradually heal and now I rarely have this pain during a LBS episode.
After not seeing the chiro for about 6 months (because the pain had stopped)I dropped in on him to tell him about my "cure" and this is what he had to say:

" I'm sorry steve but I'm afraid your barking up the wrong tree. WE don't think low blood sugar has anything to do with anything". (You ever notice that when a doctor doesn't know about something they always say "WE don't..... and when they do have an answer they say "I think")

Anyway the point I'm making is that the theory behind this pain- that is the irritation of the trigeminal nerve- makes perfect sense to me and that by eliminating my source of irritation, I have eliminated the painful condition. Yet it is still there, ready to remind me that I can still get a migraine if I'm really stupid and stray too far "off diet".

Does this make any sense to you guys?

Steve

Just read your post while sitting here with a... "dry-rice-filled-knee-sock-that-has-been-"nuked" (microwaved) for 3mins...because~I have the same problem!(LOL)

If you haven't tried the "rice-paddy" pack...DO!
It is rather soothing.

blessings, June
