Yeah, I've got one right now. I thought I could have a day off. No luck. I've been sitting outside, in the shade, painting, trying to enjoy being outside. I tried ignoring the throb, but to no avail, I had to come inside for a Fioricet and a Coke. I wish I had the smile to go with the Coke.

Where is Hamilton?

Thanks for the smile! How is your weather up there? I just figured out why I started migraining. We've got this horrible storm coming. I'm in Orlando, and we get air from the Gulf of Mexico meeting up with air from the Atlantic, which causes a big, BIG storm over my part of the state almost daily. It was sunny earlier, but I had my back to the big black clouds. That strange pressure before a storm, (low pressure, i guess) always makes me migraine. I feel good in the morning, when it is sunny and bright, but storms really zing me. Hope you get some relief from your migraine.

Tia-

I hope this is not too far off subject but i was interested in your experiences with regard to wheather and migraines.

You said your headaches come on with wheather and I had some thoughts. Stormes like the ones you describe tend to mature in the afternoon. Does your headache usually start in the afternoon, say around three?

Also- do you notice that as a storm approaches that there is a cool downdraft that hits before the rain, and is this what you are refering to as "strange pressure".

My headaches were almost always in the afternoon starting around 3. And if I got a cool breeze up the back of my neck, that would also trigger a HA. Infact, just getting a haircut would always trigger a HA.

What's your take on all this?

Steve

Steve -

I migraine all day every day in the form of seeing spots; from the time I wake up until the time I fall asleep, even with my eyes closed I see them. My pain sometimes starts with the storms, but we don't really seem to get a cool breeze before the storm. Here in Fla it is pretty much muggy all the time. I wish we had a cool breeze to help escape the humidity. The storms do come anywhere from 2 to 7 o'clock almost every day starting around June and ending in late fall. I'm not so bad off in winter and spring, when it doesn't storm daily. I don't have pain with every storm, but with lots of them I do. This area is also sometimes refered to as the lightning capital of the US. Sometimes I wonder about all that extra electricity floating around.

I have lived in Fla my whole life, and while I like it, I often think that maybe I would have less migraines if I lived somewhere w/o a daily storm pattern that lasts over half of the year.

I have had sinus x-rays to rule out any type of blockage or growth that may be causing pressure, and they were clear. I breathe easily through my nose and only have problems with regards to allergies and stuffiness in the spring when everything blooms, so through trial and error, decongestants don't help with my migraines with regards to pressure.

Also, with regards to the cool breeze on your neck that you mentioned as a trigger, I can pretty much mark that one off my list, as I have rather long hair which generally covers my neck as I cannot tolerate to have it in an updo very often.

As a side note, I have always had my hair long, and desperate for relief from migraines, I followed my neurologist's advice and cut it all off once. He said the sheer weight of my hair may be setting me off migraine-wise. I thought that might have been the answer, so whack, I had about two feet chopped off and guess what? I still had migraines. I felt like I had lost my security blanket. Since getting your hair cut sets you off, why not try growing it out!

re weather:
my neuro seems to have trouble copping to the barometric migraine but to the extent they do accept it, they say hydration helps. sine he mentioned it, i have noticed that during storms and prior to other migraine/auras, i am suddenly thirstier than usual..
not sure the cause and effect and probably it goes both ways. losing water disposes me to auras and auras cause water loss. makes sense. its all part of the inflammation process-changes in chemistry and thus fluids as well.
regarding the actual response to pressure changes i've wondered if it isn't related to baroceptors in our brain/vessels (baroceptors-barometric, that kind of thing). i don't know alot about that kind of brain physiology. maybe someone here does or has another theory.

Sorry you're feeling so bad. I feel badly because I'm feeling so well.
Has anyone tried MGrain which is where I started on my 'cure'- it sounds crazy I know when I tell you, it's an essential oil blend that you 'sniff' and believe me, after 20 years of migraines and all kinds of medications, I didn't believe it either. But it worked for me, who knows it might work for you. Bottom line is, none of us have anything to lose and everything to gain, especially trying a product that is natural and organic, if it doesn;t help, at least it won't hurt. I would caution you about essential oils though, there are many out there, soon stores like Kmart and Target will sell them, but unless they are the therapueutic grade, they won't work. I learned this the hard way myself. Apparently out of all the oils on the market, only 2% are therapeutic. Let me know how you do.
Blessings
