"alkaseltzer & coke"
A friend of mine just told me he has heard that putting alkaseltzer in a little bit of cola product (like Coke) and drinking it will get rid of a migraine.

I don't know about this one. I can't imagine drinking this concoction. But then I know in the midst of a bad HA I threaten to try anything!

What do you all think?

I think it is the thought of an analgesic and caffeine.Maybe.

If I had just an occasional mig, I'd probably give it a try.

For me just now, it would wind up in the "forget it" file along with: hot pepper spray in nose and my favorite...ice water enema!!

Who knows what works if you don't give it a try.
I wouldn't use it for daily migs as you'd probably start a rebound cycle....and you sure don't want that!

Cheers, June

When I was a young teen people used to say that alka-seltzer in coke would make you high. It sounds to me like a recycled "urban legend."

Pretty good receipe if your trigger is low blood sugar related. Sugar, caffeine to raise BS levels and an analgesic to relieve pain.

Excedrin or Vanquish do pretty much the same, but neither has much effect on a full blown migraine, at least not in my experience.

But if your headache is BS related, the coke will probably give you a DOOZY of a rebound HA.

Wishing you a pain free day!

I think anything is worth a try. I do remember hearing once that coke used to be called Pemberton's mixture in England many many years ago and that it would ease the pain of a bad headache, and I know that it helps me feel just a little better when I have a migraine and I sip on coke or pepsi! who knows????

Ruth--the old original coca cola from the time period you are talking about had cocaine in it--hence the name "coca" cola. I imagine it helped a whole lot of maladies!
