"Back on the Sansert"
I just called my neuro as my last appointment we discussed Topamax and Sansert combined. The good thing about Sansert is you know almost imediately if it going to work for you. I guess yall know the bad about it.

But Ive always said if I lose 10-20yrs of my life for better quality now its well worth it to me to find some kind of something to take that will give me my life back.

Since I'm new to this forum and havn't read all the messages I must admit I have a lot to learn. So much info to take in at once. So, no, I hav't heard about Sansert. What kind of drug is it? And What kind of side effects? There are a lot of drugs mentioned here that I never have heard of. Will keep reading and learning though!!!

Yes we know the side effects all to well.
This drug (preventative) is the "best" of all for me.
But alas, my body can't stand it. Took it for a month several years ago, almost no migraines but much sicker with many side effects.
How long have you been on Sansert, and what % are you improved. You didn't mention if you were continuing.
All the best.......Charles

Hey folks!

Charles - that ww.rxlist.com site is very informative ... thanks for the pointer!

EJ - I am with you - I'll trade my 80's and 90's for my 50's and 60's. Did I say 60's?!? Oh my - that snuck up on me (grin)

Hang In There!

For me, Sansert was a miracle drug. It worked great, for a while. After about a year on it (with the 6 week drug holiday in the middle) it stopped working quite as well, but still was helpful. For this reason, and because my husband and family had problems with the implications of long term use of the drug, I haven't been on it in a year. I have to say I'm ready for it again. I'm thinking of going on it without telling my spouse or family, but that seems rather devious. I heartily agree with you about quality of like being better than quantity.

This is my start of my 3rd day and I feel pretty good I am taking 2 pills a day after 10 days I go back to max dosage 4 pills along with my 450mg topamax.

Its been about 5yrs since I was on sansert before and it actually was my best preventative but it was very short lived.

And at that time it was 3 months straights wean down and 6 weeks off and then back on. I did not have any side affect from this medication to my knowledge.

However my first day back on it I felt rather dizzy or intoxicated but that was it.

EJ,
If it works, don't knock it! Sounds awfully tempting to me....

Hey EJ,

You got me curious with your 450 mg Topomax. My neuro swore to me that 400 mg was maximum allowed. I am 5'11" and 210 lbs. You bigger?

Also, if I am remembering correctly you suffer migraine through the painful headache symptom. Are your migraine headache fewer or less severe since you've been at such a high level of Topomax?

And did you go through the Topomax Valley of Side Effects for a month or so?

Feel free to say "none of your business."

Take it easy,
Richard

LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-02 AT 11:09 AM (CMT)

Richard,
I am about 140-145 5-4, It's always taken alot of medication to titrate my system narcotics, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, AED's.(having the same neuro and doing liver enzymes test keeping headache diary medication logs etc.) It all helps with my medication dosage/in fact for this Sansert it was handled by phone no appointment.

I have never suffered any major side affects from topamax only slight numbing of hands and feet. Only slight and thats a small price to pay for the benefits I have received from this med. I researched this medication and told this medication on the web and told my neuro about it and I was his first patient for migraines on Topamax Ive have been on it for almost 2yrs

So far the Sansert/Topamax is working GREAT (cold hands slight rash however not sure from medication or some cereal I ate that contained rye). But no migrainal symtoms

Back about 20 years ago when I had my one and only experience with Sansert, it was the only medication out there that had been developed for migraines. The others that helped some people, were actually created for other ailments and it was just discovered they could help migraines.

My experience was terrible. I took a total of two pills, exactly as directed by the doctor. I had hallucinations for about 24 hours after that. I have never even been tempted to try that medication again. Thank goodness everyone reacts differently and some of you are having good success without that side affect.

Take care everyone and hopefully you will have some pain free hours, day, or more.

To my knowledge after 20 some years or more the FDA still only recognizes Sansert as the only preventive migraine medicine treatment. Goes to show you all research is being spent into abortive
