"Question for Depakote users, (past and present)"
Did any of you really have "hair-loss" while you were on Depakote? Just how much hair loss are we talking about here? Should I buy a wig??

(After the last two horrible weeks I've had, I have broken down and taken my first dose of Depakote... and discovered I am vain about my curly hair )

I need some re-assurance, please.....
thanks, my friends,
Holly

I didn't lose any hair on Depakote either. The first time I took it, I went for a whole year without having to go to the ER. That was quite awhile ago. Good luck with it.

Holly--

Unfortunately I did have some hair loss. I was 48 at the time and had male pattern baldness on the crown of my head since my early 40's. According to my doctor at the time, the Depakote might speed up the process. It did, and was very noticable over the next year. Once we determined the Depakote had no effect and stopped it, the hair loss all but stopped. I don't know if this effect applies to women. Good luck.

Hi:
Yes, I did have a small amount of hair loss but
not too much! A small price to pay if the meds
can help ... Not everyone experiences this side
effect. Feel well!!

I did suffer hair loss, enough to make me stop taking it.

I'd compare it to the fair amount I lost after pregnancy, if that helps.

I don't think I suffered hair loss with Depakote ... but with no hair to start with it is hard to tell. (grin)

Hang In There!

Nope, no hair loss in the whole month I took it. Only weight gain!

Yes, handfulls of my long, beautiful, curly hair. I gave Depakote a 6 to 8 wk go before quitting. The thinning was very noticable to me, but only to others when I showed them.

Thankfully, it all grew back after I ceased Dep.

For me I did have hair loss after being on it for quite some time at a very high dosage. Thats when I got all the side affects. My hair is so thick anyway so a little thinning wasnt my concern.

It was the rest of the side affects that were bad and that it didnt do anything for my migraines that made it worse.

For me it has been the worse medication Ive ever taken perhaps because it never worked and my old neurologist kept upping my dosage adding elavil and upping that with no positive results for over 9 months.
