Candleshoe,

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place?! I kinda hope it is just the med and not that your migraine's are transforming on ya!

I haven't had any experience with that med so can't help you there! Just wanted you to know that I'm feeling for ya!

Hugs

Candleshoe,

My migraines are like that when at their worst. I also lose the ability to use the left side of my body. Mine are called hemiplegic migraines - the left side gets paralyzed.

Losing the ability to communicate while being able to understand is terrifying. After a few of these I learned very quickly to keep my cool, but the first few I thought I was having a stroke just like you did. And every time you wonder, "Is this the one that really is a stroke and I'm "underreacting" ?"

You know, obviously, that the symptoms aren't in any way connected to your Duragesic Patch as they started before you got it.

As far as using the Patch, I've used it in the past and it offered some level of pain control. I was on a lot of other narcotics at the same time so I can't really tell you how effective it was.

I hope you find some comfort in knowing you're not alone in what's happening to you. It's very frightening, but maybe less so now that you have someone to talk with about it. I hope I've been of some small help to you. Fell free to e-mail me at any time if you need to talk. - Donna

Candleshoe,

That sounds so scary! One of my biggest fears is thinking I would be in so much pain that I couldn't communicate to someone what was wrong. I am glad your alright and hope it was just a one-time thing.

Congratulations on your disability approval!

Take care
Terri

Howdy,

That speech loss and loss of feeling is a real kick in the pants the first few times it happens.

I have to say that these days I just take it in stride. Yesterday I was tossing logs in the back of a pick up truck with the boys when I lost speech and all movement. Just froze up completely. Took the guys about 5 minutes to notice that something was the matter. I had given them all notice that I was likely to go bonkers, so they knew what was happening. And they were cool and went about their work. Just walked around me.

15 minutes later I hobbled up the hill and sat in the shade ... couldn't speak for another half hour or so. Then I was able to slur a bit ... but could still lend a bit of direction to the work.

After 2 and a half years of losing speach and motion almost daily, I have come to take it in stride. I remember how scary it was. I DO NOT mean to belittle your experience at all. I do mean to say, it won't kill you. It isn't a lot of fun ... it is just the way it is with me.

I hope yours goes away.

Hang In There!

Richard

go int to the archives, there is a lot of info on this patch. Type in Duragesic or Fentanyl. You will have more to read than you want. Make sure to stay out of hot tubs, hot bath, bed heaters etc. HEat makes the patch release too quickly, results can be deadly. Read the insert with the patches and do what it says. Watch out for drug reaction. Duragesic is habit forming and is it a long term opioid, you can't just jump off and off. Take care. Also if you type in my name in the archives there would be info.
