"Migranes"
I am fascinated by this site. I am an identical twin,47 and have had classical migrane for over 2o years. My twin has them too. We are just finishing menopause and the severity and frequency have lessened but we still get them. It is so nice to hear others talk about life with pain and all that goes with migranes. My twin lives far away and the rest of my family has always seemed critical of how inactive I look to the outside world. This is gift to be able to communicate with others. Thank you JO jomcmahon1120@hotmail.com

Wow, an identical twin and both of you have migraines. Not that I needed to be persuaded but it sounds like you are proof positive of a genetic link!

Glad you found us. It is wonderful chatting with those who know your pain.

What do you take for your migraines? Do you and your sister have the same triggers?

Our triggers are almost identical. Any kind of cheese, tofu and soy stuff which is too bad cuz we were vegans since being teens. All the other common ones and lifestyle ones like lack of sleep and usually right after a high stress situation. She takes zomig and fiorcet. I just take zomig and recently lost my Medicaid benefits so I take Tylenol PMs and drink coffee at the same time for daily baby headache. Zomig has been a Godsend because I can be into the headache and it still helps. My doctor gives me samples cuz now I can't afford it. I would love for the literary world to portray the migrane sufferer in a truer light. Donna Tartts wonderful novel, My Secret Friend has a character who is always in bed and lackluster as a Mom and mentions she has headaches and it is implied that she is making them up. There are other works that support that notion that we are loser, lazy. Thanks for listening. JO

Dear Jo~~~
Welcome to the forum. I've read several studies of identical twins and migraine. Many researchers use twins to prove the genetic component of migraine.

Drs always love finding twins raised apart so no social/environmental factors are present to skew the results.

Soy sauce is one of my worst triggers, too. Migraine before I would finish the meal.

Hope you will stick around. Perhaps invite your twin, as well?

Hi! I have an identical twin, too, but, oddly enough, she does not get migraines, but I've gotten them all my life. I get them in my neck and shoulders and behind my eyes and severe nausea. They seem to be triggered by hormones, low blood sugar, stress, weather.... I've been to a chiropractor and an osteopath who have both been able to make a migraine disappear instantly, using different methods. I wonder if something weird happened to my neck at birth? My twin was breach, but I was normal.
