Like you said, make shure you drink enough watter true the flight.
And I bet you know also to put your meds in your purse and not in your in your suitcase.

I had always trouble with M`s with all my flights, so I took 1 hour before every flight always my med agains the nausea. When the M started ( normally when the plaine is in the air, because the preshure triggers for me) I took than the abortive, so it was not to bad with the nausea.

Hope you have a great trip, have lot`s of fun

Wow, how exciting!! Has this anything to do with the upcoming adoption, or is it just a trip?

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Yes Ruth, this is trip #1 of two required trips to adopt a Russian child.

We are going with a mission organization who is overseeing the building of a church. We (my 14 yr old son and I) will help with the building project and also take the preliminary steps in the arduous process of international adoption.

We will be on planes, trains, and buses to reach our destination. Joy.

Ear protection. THe noise of flying for so long is exhausting.

Next time I fly a long distance, I will take a heavy duty sleeping med. The sleep deprivation kills me.

If you are a coffee drinker, take something with caffeine in it with you. Maybe Excedrin. Or some of those cute little cans of coffee. Coffee helps me more than anything else.

Hi Five,

We had friends who went to Russia and visited some people they knew who are missionaries there.

The woman who is our friend, couldn't speak the native language, so she'd smile and signal "Okay"
a lot... mainly because she is an odd woman, but, nevertheless, the point is... the little hand signal that we use for "Okay" with the little "O" shape that we make with our thumb and forefinger... didn't MEAN "Okay" there... uh...

She was kindly told by a woman who DID speak English, that it meant the same thing as when someone here, in the USA or Canada, folds down all of their fingers, except for the middle one, which is held up like a salute... yeah... the bird...

This was out in a small town, which was in a rather remote part of the country... so maybe with as westernized as the Major Cities are there, now, you will not have much trouble with colloquialisms... but, I thought that I'd warn ya.

This may have been when they were in Romania... They went there too... but, heck... it's worth mentioning.

have fun.

I wish I could go there sometime. I just know that I NEVER want to go back to the Middle East.

I found that to be a horrible experience...well, Jordan was an horrible experience... ugh.

Have fun.

Wow, what an exciting trip you've planned!
All I can add is to make sure and get plenty of rest and sleep (if possible) when you arrive. Jet lag can bring on the M's! It usually takes a few days to adjust to the time change, so just lay low for the first few days.

It is wonderful that you are taking your 14 year old with you. What an education you are providing. On top of that, you are saving young life.

I wish you all the best in your quest to adopt. I would love to hear all about your adventure when you get back.

Lots of love,
Łeslie

Yes please tell us all about it when you get back. It sounds tiring so make sure you have plenty of medication with you. I know it will all be worth it when you eventually get to adopt this new child. I hope we can see a picture of him/her in the not too distant future!!

God bless and have a safe trip!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. It's gonna be a crazy couple of weeks before we leave. I have a LONG "to do" list!

I'm thrilled that my menstrual cycle seems to be cooperating with my travel plans. This is a real blessing.

I'll keep you updated as I am able. Lord willing, I will have a photograph to post in late July. Then, the real agonizing wait begins to hear when our court date will be to return and bring him/her HOME.

Take care.

good luck!! my cousin and her husband got to bring their beautiful russian baby home this past january. they are so happy!!

u probably already know this but:

she hadn't ever laid on her stomach b/c she spent

22 or so hrs in her crib at the orphanage, so she

of course at 10 mths. didn't like it at first.

but once her dad showed her that if she tucked

her arm under her that she could roll, she rolled

everywhere. she now is up to her age level. it

is amazing what devotion and love can do for

someone.

what a wonderful thing to be able to adopt a baby

in need..good luck to u and your family..tee

p.s. i am going on a trip to italy in the fall,

so any advice when u come back would be

appreciated.

I imagine you have equipped yourself for travel, but several folks here have talked about Bucky eyeshades. I found a company that is selling them for much less than the Bucky website:

...and have a fabulous time. Sarah

13. "update on Russia"
Well, it's been quite a week. My son and I are scheduled to leave this coming Monday (28th).

This PAST Wednesday, my youngest son (age 10), severely cut his foot in our back yard on a stake holding down a giant slip'n'slide. It opened up his foot (think filet) from big toe to ankle, cutting down to (and thru) one of his metaracil (sp?) bones.

Needless to say, I feel like I've got PostTraumaticStressSyndrome.

He is making great progress now - is down to only 1 or 2 Advil per day for pain (from Vicodin + 3 Advil every 6 hrs a few days ago). He's getting around on crutches, but keeps it elevated most of the time. Obviously, he's on major antibiotics to prevent any infection.

I'm feeling now like I can go ahead with our trip. Last Thursday and Friday, I was having major doubts.

So, anyway, I'm plugging along trying to get everything done. He's had friends come over every day to play board games with him and watch movies. This is great for his spirits and great for Mom to get things checked off the "to do" list.

So, think of me next Monday morning as we begin a very long trek to Far East Russia!

I'll check back in later on in July.

Ouch, that gave me the shudders thinking about your son's foot!! I'm glad to hear he's slowly on the mend.

Well I hope everything goes well for you on your trip, I shall remember you in my prayers, and I look forward to hearing all about it when you get back. Take care, and Bon Voyage!!

They do have good drs in Russia, and of course they do have antibiotics , it may cost a bit but if anything happens ERs are there. Not that you will need it

Sorry about your son's foot - I hope it will heal before you leave, youngsters are so resilient.

Have fun in Russia! i am so excited for you!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-23-04 AT 04:53 AM (CMT)

I haven't posted about your trip till now. I wanted to say how much I admire you and your family for the mission work.

I'm terribly sorry for your son. OUCH!! Hope he heals swiftly and the pain goes away FAST!

Have you checked into the travel aids like ear-plugs, eye-shades etc? I was searching on google for eye shades and saw lots of nice little helps for travel. If you haven't already, you might like to check it out.

Hugs,
Karen

Well, DUH. I forgot to tell you to have a wonderful trip. And, I hope everything goes smoothly for the adoption.

hey again,

my younger son is doing GREAT. he still cannot put any weight on his foot, but he is cruising around the house on his crutches. when it starts to hurt, he knows it's time to elevate again. he's doing lots of reading (!), and enjoying more TV & Gameboy than mom usually permits. he's had lots of pals come over to play board games and cards with him too.

I feel good about leaving on Monday. Am soooo thankful for his return strength and anticipate coming home to no cast and no crutches!
