"Brush with Fame"
After re-reading about Steve B's Alamo experience, I thought why not ask folks about their brushes with fame? We may have done this before (it sounds very familiar) but what the heck! We all have memory problems...we could stand to hear some stories over again!

1) When I was a teenager, my friend and I took the bus to Southampton. We wanted to walk around and look at the stores and be real grown-up (were were about 14). The night before we saw the movie, "Murder By Death". Then, while walking around Job's Lane in Southampton, we ended up behind Truman Capote! He was in "Murder By Death". A waitress where we had lunch confirmed that it was him. She said he is always walking around.

2) Back in the mid 90's, my Mom treated my sister and me to a Broadway Show. When we were walking back to our hotel, we passed Jackie Mason.

3) My third brush with fame was again in Southampton. I took my sons to see the re-release of one of the Star Wars movies. Roy Scheider sat next to my son. Mr. Scheider was in JAWS (my son's favorite movie at the time).

I never had the nerve to ask for an autograph or anything. I have seen people I paid to see (like in a play) but these are random star sightings!

When I used to work in downtown Minneapolis, I was walking on the sidewalk just minding my own business when all of a sudden several men in dark suits came shooting out of the building I was passing.

They came out like a shot, and scared me half to death. I was the only one around.

Walter Mondale (then Vice President) came bouncing over to me to shake my hand, surrounded by the Secret Service.

I didn't really ask for such a thrilling experience. But that's ok. I like Walter Mondale.

I have shaken hands with Art Linkletter, Dale Evans, Shirley Boone (Pat Boone's wife), the wife of Anwar Saddat, and Amy Grant at Salvation Army functions.

I also got to see Prince Charles up close and touch his car at a Salvation Army conference in London in 1978.

And I was pretty close (inches) away from the King and Queen of Sweden a few years ago.

My son met Paul Harvey and Sean Cassidy at work.

That's all I can think of for now!

THis is such a fun topic, LOL!

When I was in High School, a friend and I got to meet Brian Austin Green (The geek from Beverly Hills 90210), and sat down for dinner with him and one of his security team

When we were stationed in Spain the Goo Goo Dolls went on a USO tour, and we drove to the Naval Base to see them. After the concert we went to the club on base and hung out, and the whole band showed up!!!

The lead singer, Johnny Rzeznik , bought me and my two friends a couple of rounds before he found out we were all married, LOL!!! The whole band signed autographs for our husbands saying they were glad that they didn't come with us *hee*

I'm on the far right

Thanks for letting me share!!!

My husband is telling me he got to meet Jim Irwin. He was an astronaut who went to the moon.

I have met and spoken to the Queen's hubby, Prince Philip, that was years ago while I was attending school in London. I was working on my Duke of Edinburgh's Award (which I never did get!) and he came to visit us at school to see what we were all taking part in. It was very exciting hearing that his helicopter had just arrived in the school grounds!

I've met Marty Robbins (got an autograph and kiss on the cheek when I was 12), Jake Hess, and Jesse Dixon after concerts. I'm not sure if anybody knows who any of these people are. I also had the chance to talk to Reba McIntyre's sister. She's a great singer in her own right and a very sweet lady (looks a lot like Reba too).

Hubby sold computer cables to a drummer from a rock band, but I can't recall who it was though. They were in the area for a concert and came into the store where he was working at the time. I'll edit this when I remember who it was. Darn migraines steal my brain cells. LOL

Ok, I am in the film biz so I have worked with all sorts of people. Even Jack Nicholson, though I was only in the room with him, I didn't have to speak with him. Sean Penn I spoke with about the prop food. And Ben Afleck, Richard Dreyfuss, Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Johnny Depp (my husband and he were friends) Linda Hamilton, Patty Duke (!!), Brad Pitt, Ashley Judd, Benjamin Bratt (sp?) and a bunch more whose names I can't come up with without searching through my work notebooks. All sorts fo TV actors, and other "stars".

If you see Catwoman, let me know what you think of the sushi in the restaurant scene - I made it, and all the other food you'll see in that movie!

It sounds sort of glamorous but it's not. I go to work and so does everyone else on the set. It can be an interesting process, but most of the time it's either super stressful or super boring. The contact I have with the famous people is limited to talking about what we're doing, and it nothing terribly interesting. But I do like my job!

Oh, and Dizzy Gillespe was a good friend of my parents'. I knew him pretty well. He was the coolest man on earth.

I have met different people from the movie biz to the sports industry along the way. I dont work in the industry but my brother does as does most of my family in Puerto Rico - that is where the talent in the family is -they are all actors/singers/directors/producers etc... my brother got some of those genes, but my son got them all. I am convinced he needs to go New York and audition for soap operas. He pulls of dramatic shows in my home daily!!

My two favorite stories though are when I was a teen in California I was friends with Loni Anderson's daughter Diedra, she was at my house after school and Loni came to pick her up in full makeup after work. I dont think my Dad has ever been the same since.

My other story is my son who I believe was 14 at the time got to sit next to Matt Damon on a flight from New York. My son was cool and left him alone, but Matt was friendly - they spoke a bit and then slept as it was a red-eye. My kid always gets to sit with interesting people in first class. I get the drunk looser perverts. L

This was a fun and light hearted thread, I enjoyed reading everybody's 'Brushes with Greatness".

We live in Thousand Oaks, CA and lots of stars live here and around. One's I've come across:

*My husband and I almost ran over Tom Selleck, his wife and daughter coming out of Jack's Restaurant in Westlake Village one Sunday after church. Also, his daughter has gone to the same swimming school my son goes too. He comes to special events there.

*In the mall and at different restuarants in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and Malibu areas: Pamela Anderson, Heather Locklear, Craig T. Nelson, Shannon Doherty (at COST-CO!!), Bill Maher.

*And most recently saw Nancy Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in the funeral procession, pretty up close.

I too worked in the industry for quite a while so have met quite a few and/or befrinended a couple. I am rather unimpressed by "fame"..to me they are just people. But, some of them do see themselves as better...I am sure E can attest to that!

Here is my list..

Did casting for Happy Gilmore - spent a couple of months with Adam Sandler in casting. He was hilarious.

A friend dated Gillian Anderson for a while and I was invited to her house (with my ex) to have thanksgiving. I forgot my bloody camera which is a bummer - because we had a hoot making the turkey and such. We hung out for about a month or so. Even went shopping together once.

Also worked as casting asst. on some Brian Dennehy stuff. He was wonderful. I really liked him and we got along great.

--also, Linda Hunt, Judy Davis...

Went for dinner with David Hasslehoff - he was courting a client of mine (when I was a talent agent) to be on Baywatch.

He was a twit. The funny thing is that my friend who is a chef (we didn't know eachother at the time) made our food and remembers hearing him get all "uptight"...he freaked out when I said that the German people probably like him and his music so much because they idendify with his last name...ohhhh, WRONG..he launches into this thing about how talented he is...

zzzzzz

Lisa Rinna ("fat lips" from Melrose)
Kevin Sorbo (his wife is mean as hell)
Sebastian Spence - he is a bit of a "local" celebrity in that he lives here part time. You can look him up...he is a cutie..and a friend.
Wil Devry - was on All My Children for a while (and other shows) - he played Michael something..hmm bad guy last summer. We stayed with him in NYC last summer on our big trip.

Steven Tyler - from Arrowsmith
Bon Jovi
Richy Sambora
Cyndi Lauper *this was a big deal for me- I was a huge fan.
...and many more.

I have a friend who is a reputable music engineer and, many albums are recorded here in Vancouver. Met many of them and had lots of backstage passes to gigs...fun.

Cool topic!

I used to work for a few airlines which allowed me to talk on the phone with:

Charlie Sheen in 1992. He was flying from Seattle to Los Angeles, first class (of course).

Brendan Shanahan (hockey placer) in 1996. He was flying from somewhere in the US (can't remember where) to Sydney.

Michael Dupont (of the Dupont family). He was flying from somewhere in the US to Sydney, first class. He even called back to compliment me on doing a good job making his reserverations.

Fun!
