"Has anyone met anyone Famous?"
Hi. Awhile back someone asked this question -- I thought the answers were so intersting. So thought let's try it again. I had lunch at Amy Grant's house. She was married to Gary Chapman at the time. They both were so wonderful.

Also one time many years ago I was playing drums in a band working a big show in Chicago. There was a man who was ahead of us -- we were waiting in a kitchen before we went on. He was asking me many questions about my drum set -- because they were very special -- see through, colored with lights.

He told me he played and was looking for another set. I gave him some info on where to go and he wrote it all down. Then he had to go on. He thanked me and shook my hand -- It was Walter Payton and I had no clue.

During the show we only had to do 3 songs. Our girl singer was really good, anyway he gave me the thumbs up several times with a smile. Also opened for Charlie Daniels -- he was really cool. Got to have a beer on his bus.

Through my Nashville friends have met Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuf, Boxcar Willie and many more. We got to go backstage at the opry because I know 2 guitar players who work there alot. When we saw Minnie she was walking down the hall.

She asked us to please wait for a picture with her because she really needed the ladies room. Skeeter Davis gave me a big hug when she heard I was an Illinois farmer she liked that. She is or was a big time vegetarian. She sang End of The World. We talked to her for about an hour.

One last thing -- was using the restroom at the Opry and standing next to me was guy who played Mr. Hany of Green Acres. He was really nice. We talked for a few minutes. He was friends with one of my guitar friends. Take care. Billy

Mainly seen up close...not really met...

Tom Selleck (twice) & my niece is on her summer break from college right now and home for the summer...and her summer job is caring for Tom's horses at his home here on his avocado ranch. My uncle told us yesterday that he dropped her off there on Sunday and Tom was out mowing his land on his ride-on mower and got off and came to meet him and shook his hand...said he was nice as can be. And he is gorgeous...even now.

Also have seen Britney Spears 2 wks ago at lunch in Calabassas at The Commons. Looked like she just rolled out of bed.

See Heather Locklear often at the mall and various parks in our area.

Pamela Anderson, Craig T. Nelson, Wayne Gretzky, Mariel Hemingway (often), Scott Hamilton, ......

Hey Billy--this is a great, interesting thread. Should be interesting to read/see who all everyone has met or whatnot...

I met Mickey Mantle when I was 6 or so...other celebs were there too. I can't recall who all I met there, but him. LOL...

Oh yeah--Nolan Ryan too...

My Mom..UGH! We have it on videotape. Hehehe...

Sports figures...*winks*.

Ohhh..!! Almost forgot..!! How could I?...GRR! We (Mom, Dad, and I) met a few yrs. ago at a concert: (the same one I believe/fairly certain): The Guess Who, and The Lovin' Spoonful. *winks*

I'm more a fan of The Guess Who. Hehehe...Mom is an oldies fanatic, and Dad...OMG! Sheesh! When he passed away, it pained me to listen to them, but I listen ever-so-often. Not many, but just a few.

I LOVE 'You Saved My Soul' and 'These Eyes'...Burton Cummings...WOW! LOL...! *winks* I haven't seen "Melanie" in YEARS; we had it on VHS, but EVERY time I listen to 'You Saved My Soul', yep...I think of that movie...

Take care

P.S. Being my Dad was a golf pro, and so forth...that was the biggest 'area'...(more so than baseball...): Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, etc...my memory is so crappy that I can't recall right off hand which one he has a letter from...

There's a really good friend of my Dad's, a golf pro he worked with when my parents lived where they did when my sister was born..., and he kept in touch with whichever one wrote Dad (GRR! Stupid memory...LOL).

Dad's lifelong dream was to ALWAYS make it to the Senior PGA if he could...sighs. I bet he could have...*winks*. ONE day...however, if he hadn't had metastatic kidney cancer with mets to his lungs and bones, and broken his arm/cancer hadn't eaten away at his right elbow and he'd had to have a prosthetic joint placed and had to give up playing golf...well... Dad was a GREAT golfer...one of the best...! And I'm NOT just saying that because I'm his daughter either...! (LOL) Sighs and frowns.

I have shaken hands with Shirley Boone (Pat Boone's wife), Art Linkletter, Dale Evans Rogers, Amy Grant, Anwar Sadat's widow, and Walter Mondale when he was Vice President.

I have seen Prince Charles, Mary Tyler Moore, Roger Starbauch (sp?), Colin Powell, Marilyn Quale, and President Ford.

My funny little list.

I met John Stamos, but I was too young to remember.

I chatted with Seth Green. He was a friend of my old boyfriend's dad.

I met the entire cast of "Just Shoot Me" (remember that show? Wonder what happened to it...)

I saw Tia & Tamara Mowery up close at a deli (they were with their brother... can't remember his name)

I saw the oldest brother from "Wonder Years" at a bar. What the heck was his name?? He looked horrible.

I saw Demi Moore with her kids @ a restaurant. She looked pretty bad, too...

I think there are a few more that I actually met, I just can't remember who!

I taught ballroom dancing to Scott Niedermayer, the hockey player. I have to say he and his girlfriend (now wife) were the nicest, most down to earth people you would ever want to meet. The funniest part is that I didn't even know who is was at the time because I never watched hockey!

Once I passed Walter Matthau walking on the beach in Malibu, CA. It was about 6:30 AM on a Sunday morning. No one else was anywhere around except me in evening attire, Matthau, and a boy accompanying him (maybe his grandson?)

Matthau had his head down and was quietly talking to the boy. It was clear he didn't want to make eye contact and I certainly didn't want to bother him. Besides I was nursing an awful hangover so I wasn't in the mood to be social. Nevermind what I was doing walking along the beach with a hangover, early in the morning in evening garb!

9. "RE: Has anyone met anyone Famous?"
Cool topic, Billy.

Let's see...

I did high school theatre for two years in Kansas City, then worked as an arts volunteer here in West Virginia for 30 years, so I've met a few people. I'll be showing my age, and some of you may not even know who these people are...

I had lunch with Bert Parks and Betty Garett after a matinee of "Plaza Suite."

Did Ed Ames's makeup for a performace of "Man of la Mancha."

Spent a day with Colleen Dewhurst, Broadway and tv actress. One of the last things she did was playing Murphy Brown's mother.

Met and spent part of an evening with Wynton Marcellus. (sp?)

Have met Shirley Jones, Emmilou Harris, Maya Angelou, Danny Rapp (Original Danny, Danny & the Juniors), Mark Lindsay (Paul Revere and the Raiders), John Denver.

Now, some people we probably don't consider famous, but I consider heroes... the Migraineurs I've met who survive day after day without totally losing hope, and the guys and gals who keep fighting and working for us -- Dr. Richard Lipton, Dr. Fred Sheftell, Dr. William B. Young, Dr. Stephen Silberstein, Dr. John Claude Krusz, Dr. Randy Evans, Dr. Ravishankar, Dr. Peter Goadsby, Dr. Tim Steiner, Dr. Elizabeth Loder, Dr. Roger Cady, Suzanne Simons of the National Headache Foundation, Michael John Coleman of MAGNUM, Dr. Merle and Dr. Seymour Diamond, Dr. Rami Burstein, Dr. Stewart Tepper, Valerie South of the International Headache Society, and some I'm leaving out. These people are my "heroes."

10. "RE: Has anyone met anyone Famous?"
Teri -- I do agree those Drs are famous to us. I'm sure we all have met some great Drs in our looking for help. I have met both Dr. Diamounds and also Dr. Menenzes (spelled wrong) from Iowa.

All good Drs. But I do have to say the number one Dr. I have had the joy to meet and know is Dr. Robbins. He is such a giving person and really cares about us. It also is so wonderful of you Teri to be so giving to us here.

Would love to have you come to one of the Chicago trips. It is people like you and Drs like Dr. Robbins who are opening peoples eyes about us -- the cronic migrainers. Thankyou both. Billy and Liliana

Billy and Liliana,

Awwwwwww, thank you so much. I really wish I could travel more. Wanted to be there with y'all so much. But, About doesn't pay any of my expenses for travel, journals, books, etc., so I end up spending what I make doing my work. That's not a complaint. I made that choice and stick by it, but with John retired, that means I have to limit travel. Maybe next year.

It looks as if I'm going to finally get to meet Dr. Robbins next month at the American Headache Society conference. That conference is my one big annual travel indulgence. Can't wait to meet Dr. Robbins! Had looked for him last year, but he wasn't there.

In performance:

Peter Noone (of Herman's Hermits)
John Denver
Tom Bosley (father on Happy Days)
Michael Learned (mother on the Walton's)
Linda Lavin (Alice)
Hal Linden (Barney Miller)
Whoopi Goldberg

Just happenstance:

Jackie Mason (he was walking on a street in the Broadway District and we passed him on the sidewalk)

Roy Scheider (starred in JAWS. He sat next to my son in the theatre in Southampton, NY watching one of the revamped Star Wars movies)

Truman Capote (writer of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "In Cold Blood"). He also was in spoof movie called "Murder By Death" and my best friend and I had just seen the movie the night before then saw him walking in downtown Southampton).

The only ones I've met to actually hold a conversation with are Marty Robbins, Connie Smith, Jake Hess, and Jesse Dixon. Although anyone not familiar with the Gaither Homecoming tours probably won't know the last two.

I met and spoke to Prince Philip when he visited my school years ago, for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. He had a bad cold at the time - I remember his red nose!

I got Sammy Davis Junior's autograph years ago in England.

Seen Engelbert Humperdink at Heathrow Airport.

I went to the same high school as Jamie Lynn Sigler of the Sopranos. I sat next to Leonardo Dicaprio and Q-Tip (a rapper) in a Cafe once.
i've seen plenty of famous people in the street, although I never bother them: Woody Allen, Ethan Hawke, Drew Barrymore, Russel Simmons, Parker Posey. Those are some of the more famous ones - Ive seen tons of not as well known but I am not very star struck so i usually leave them alone!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Speaking of "Murder by Death," by boyfriend and I just watched the first hour of "Clue," which we decided was very much like "Murder by Death," as it satirized the detective industry. However, it didn't seem quite so directed at professional sleuths, since none of the characters were professionals.

We thought the movie was interesting, but we didn't really care for it too much. So we gave up and watched PBS instead.

I made a strawberry sundae for Jim Kelly ( anyone know who he played for.....I thought it was the Steelers but I am now thinking the Bills). He was so nice and I didn't know who it was until my boss told me after he got in his car to leave. I thought about running after him to ask for his autograph but thought that might be rude.

I waited on Ted Nugent's grandparents for years when I worked in a little family diner. They were very nice.

Why can't I run into George Clooney or Johnny Depp?!?!?! Maybe because I live in rural Pennsylvania where not many exciting things happen!

I forgot, I saw the Eagles in concert (Don Henley...be still my heart!).

I remember not liking the movie Clue, either. Wasn't Tim Curry in it? (the actor who portrayed Dr. Frankenfurter in the Rocky Horror Picture Show)?
