Journal of Migraine Sufferers

RONDA, on behalf of all of us that use this journal, I can't thank you enough for trying so hard to come up with new backgrounds and print that makes it easier for all of us to read. I know it is very hard to please everyone and you try so hard. When I was reading the posting of Dianna's and it had the print in black and the name & address, etc. in green and the email address in blue, I thought this looked really good. It makes it very easy to find a posting that you were looking for again. It was just a thought. We appreciate all your efforts.

Hello Friends,

Well my visit with my Primary Care Phys. went well. I did have strep throat & was given one of the "NEW" 5 day antibiotics & will have to see how that works out. I am very happy to say that she filled my request for furinol w/codine with out much hesitation. I told her that when I take the regular furinol, it does not help as much, but when I take the furinol w/codine it seems to help a lot. Being that I am NOT a small person, I metabolize the medication very well and the small amount of codine that is in it is not adicting. She did ask that I continue to take the regular stuff & only use the codine one when the attacks were uncontrolable. My Neuro does not give me the codine one. But thats OK since I know that My PCP will.

This week will be hectic, friends. Remember that we have to take care of ourselves first... then we can take care of everyone else. I don't have kids, so I know that the mothers & fathers that suffer will find this hard to do, but maybe someone (friend or family) can lend you a hand. I think that many times we are afraid to seek the help that we need in that sense (wether it be in a family situation or just by ourselves) for fear that we will seem weak or otherwise incapable. We need to realize that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength because we KNOW we can't do it all.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL HOLIDAY. Peace be with you & yours! ~Dianna~

To my fellow migraine suffers: What I am going to tell you is going to sound very strange but I have found relief from an found relief from almost daily migraines, starting when I was 9 years old. I am now 47. As most of you, I went to every doctor, tried every drug, was on the verge of suicide, when my neurologist reluctantly referred me to a Chinese acupuncturist. I had relief from my daily migraines after the first treatment. She did something called "Cupping" on my neck and shoulder area. Caused major bruising from these suction cup like devices she put on the areas of muscle tightness that I tense when I am getting a migraine. But IT WORKED FOR ME. I was blown away. I have gone to her weekly, and am down to 2 aspirins a day instead of codeine or Imitrex every 4 hours. I don't question why it works, but just accept there is something valid in treatments hundreds of years old. She also uses traditional acupuncture and something called muscle scrubbing. Weird I know, but it works...... Diane Jones lsjones@earthlink.net

Sue Nickols - I tried to email you about 3 times, but it came back. Sue, Try this: 3 advil (should work in 30-45 minutes). My doctor recemended me take this and it works, usually within 30 minutes. Percogesic (from over the counter). It will probably put you to sleep, but, when you wake up the migraine may be gone. Let me know how this works. I hope you feel better. Tammy

I'm so glad that I found this web page. I've had headaches since I was about 8, I'm now 25 and hoping that it will all come to an end someday. I feel as though I have tried everything in the book concerning medications, but I see from this page that their are a few more to try. I haven't taken the road of homeopathic medicine, only a brief stint with some accupuncture. My headaches have become daily in the last couple of years from about 23 on. I have never visited an emergency room, and I feel for those of you that have. Yes, it feels like we are in a world of our own when it comes to understanding what each individual is going through. It is hard to explain the pain, anxiety, and worry about when a headache will hit to a non-migrainal person. They just don't understand what we all go through on a daily basis. Like many of you, I too am tired of using my vacation time at work to deal with my migraines/headaches, and appointments for them. I sometimes wish I could afford to work part-time at least you could just go in, get the job done and go home. Each day is one of mystery...will or won't I get one, should I make plans tonight or will I have to cancel them. I, once again am GLAD I found this page, it let's me see just how many others suffer just like me. I will definitely be back. Thanks.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START AT. I HAVE HAD THIS MIGRAINE FOR OVER TWO MONTHS NOW. I HAVE TIRED EVERY DRUG UNDER AND OVER THE COUNTER I HAVE HAD TO SWITCH MY DOCTORS TWICE SO FAR BECAUSE THEY JUST GIVE UP AND DO NOT WHAT TO CONTINUE TO GIVE ME ANYMORE MEDS. THE NERO HAS DONE SEVREAL TEST THAT ALL COME BACK NORMAL. I AM AT MY ENDS WITS I FEEL I CAN'T KEEP ON THIS WAY I'VE ASKED ABOUT PAIN MANAGEMENT CENTERS AND THEY SENT ME TO DEPENDENCEY REHAB. THEY REFUSE ME CAUSE I HAVE NOT ABUSE ANY DRUGS. THAT WAS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND NOW I AM STUCK THRU THE WEEK END WITH NO PAIN MEDS OR ANY HELP EXPECT AN EMERENCY ROOM AND THEY ARE GETTING TO NO ME ON FIRST NAME BASES. I FEEL LIKE GIIVING UP AT TIMES. I HAVE HAD MIGRAINES SINCE I WAS 12 ,I WOULD HAVE ATTACK MAYBE 2 OR 3 TIMES A YEAR. BUT THE LAST 6 YRS I HAVE BEEN MIGRAINE FREE , I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MTHIS HEADACHE IS LASTING THIS LONG. LIKE I.VE SAID I HAVE TAKIN EVERYTHING FOR THIS AND THE BEST THAT I,VE FOUND THAT WOULD TAKE THE EDGE OFF IS THE IMTREK AND STADOL NS. I'M DESPARTLY LOOK FOR AN ANSER.

Hello again, I am wake and can't go to sleep. My head hurts so badly I'm nauseated and I have to go to Sacramento to my daughters modeling class, and see my granddaughter. I think I'll try to go to a clinic there. The hospital down here is forcing me to sign a pain contract and find a new Dr. down here. My Dr. is in Chico (3 1/2 hrs away) and they won't give me anything. How I wish they could understand how bad this is for us who have migraines. We don't want to be in pain and I certainly don't want to be addicted to drugs. Why can't they perscribe narcotics to those of us who need them it has been proven many times that the people who take narcotics for pain do not become addicted. I have been on both Stadol NS and Stadol injectable for quite a while and have not had to alter the dose or take it more frequently than recommened. I don't get my refill untill tuesday morning as I've had to transfer pharmacies. I have also had my insurance tell me that they would pay for the nasal spray but not the injectable. Has anyone else had this happen. The cost has gone up considerly also. I'm paying 73.20 for the nasal spray and 75.80 for the shots. I was paying 58.00 and 70.20 respectedly for my meds. I would love to hear what others are paying for their Stadol. I know this cost is prohibitive for many and have wondered if there is any financial help other than medical or medicaid, ssi or private insurance out there for any of us. If any one knows of anything please share it with us . Thanks for all of the E-mail and stories of the sufferers. Here's for a nother pain filled day and no end to my headachein sight. We have to leave soon to get to Sac. on time for her class I'm going to try to lay in the dark for a while with an ice pack. Thank you for a place to ramble on about my headaches as no one else wants to hear it any more. Tay Hodges
