I have had migraines for years and tried almost every medicine available. For the past year I have seen a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic. He has me on Pamelor (150 mg./day). This is much better than Depakote, Prednisone etc.
One thing I read about is a dietary supplement called Migra-Lieve. For me the stuff is incredible. You take it twice a day. Each pill has 150 mg. of magnesium and 200 mg. of Vitamin B2. It says relief takes 6 - 8 weeks, but I had a major improvement within 36 hours of starting the stuff. I checked with my neurologist before starting on the stuff. He told me that he recommends it for some of his patients.
Give it a try. It's greatly reduced the number and severity of my headaches.

I have a friend who experiences extremely bad migraines, so bad she has to go to the hospital and receive morphine to releive the symtoms. Are there any dietary remedies that have been known to help releive these headaches?
Thanks ahead of time

Okay, I had my first migraine in about 3 months yesterday. It wasn't too bad but it was bad enough to make me want to scream. I slept all day, and went out only at night when the sun was starting to go down so I could see my boyfriend. He made me eat and drink but it I still felt weak and very tired. Today it has almost been eleviated.
I used to get migraines almost daily, the worst ones lasted for weeks at a time, the lesser lasting for a day or two. I'd get them so bad I couldn't see, I would go literally blind and hear a buzzing in my ears. I would also black out when everything was fine, so the doctors at Dartmouth did a ct scan and said that everything looked normal. They put me on amytriptyline, it works good, but if I miss one dose I get a migraine. I also take it at regular times, but if I do get a migraine, there is nothing I can do....

Hello to everyone. I finally have a place to come to that understands me and I feel that everyone wont think that I am "CRAZY". I have had mirgraines since I was 12. I am now 26. I went several years with verybad headaches and other syptoms and then years with just regular headaches. Last summer I began getting them again. The last several months they have become unbarable. I have been to so many doctors and I have had so many syptoms. I have numbness in my hands and legs, I feel that my spine is being ripped out of my back, my face is swelling and going numb, my jaw hurts, I cant see half the time, I cant think when I have a headahce, I get fever and chills and night sweats. I have been given imitrex the nasal spary but it only helps at the beginning as long as it doesnt hit me full blown. Then it is too late for anything to work. I have had a headache for the last two weeks and it hasnt fully disapeared. I have been to the ER twice, I had extremely high blood pressure(175/120) and thought my head and heart was going to explode. I threw up everywhere, fainted several times. I have been to a neurologist and he told me he thinks it is migraines that is doing all of this but it could also be fibromyalgia and maybe lupus. I have had liver problems and kidney problems too. But it doesnt matter what I have I still have the headaches. I cant tell what triggers them. I was on Elavil, inderol, imitrex, migrazol, and several other meds and they dont fully take the pain away.
I understand what each and every one of you is going through. I have three kids and an ex husband that doesnt understand what I go through. They think that it is all a show. It is so hard.
There are times that I just dont want to go on. I have missed so much work and I am so scared that I will lose my job. I want to live and play with my kids. There are days that I could just sleep forever. After I was in the ER I slept for more than 24 hours. I feel so doped up from all the meds. Is any of these helping anyone else? Have any of you been told anything about the Lupus or fibromyalgia?
Well I hope that one day there is a cure or better releif.
May God bless you all and you are definately in my prayers.

Hello Everyone,

As sad as this may seem, it is almost comforting to find other suffers out there, we understand it!!

My family and I planned a glorious trip around Toronto, my husband and son to a Jay's game and me and my daughter well what else... shopping. Guess what I got? If you guessed sore feet you are correct but I also managed to get a lovely migraine for the day!!!

Actually I have learned to start handling them by learning my triggers and reading all the info I can and also by site such as this to keep up with latest trends.

I was terrible for about 3 months, the headaches were constant, I lost tons of valuable living time. Finally I was so sick, I had not had any food or liquid for 2 days straight, I went to the emerg. Turns out I had pneumonia. Since receiving treatment that attack I had last week was my first in months.

All though it can be a pain in the butt, learning my triggers has really helped. I try to stay more active now as light to moderate exercise helps to keep the oxygen flowing.

Hope everyone can find relief and have a great summer. Take care everyone.

I've been to alot of web sites & after reading some entries, alot of you sound like what I've been going through most all my life.
I am a 36 year old female & have had headaches & migrains since I was a child. I use to get so sick I was put in the hospital at a very young age & they couldn't find a thing wrong. I have been to pain managment clinics & now I'm seeing a neuroligist for a year now. Had a MRI & blood work done & shows nothing. I would list the drugs he has tried but I would be tying for quite a while. To make it simple he has put me on anti-dep., beta blockers, muscle relaxers & even arthitis medicines.
Now this week he has me on Zanaflex 2mg twice a day. I think this is the first time in along time I haven't felt the feeling I describe as a headache wanting to start feeling that rules my day & if I do any kind of activity I will have a migrain by dinner time.
Can anyone tell me if they have tried this Zanaflex. It is acually to treat muscle spasms associated with multiple slerosis or spinal cord injuries.
I take Maxalt for my migrains which works 95% of the time. I use to take Amerge but only worked 60% of the time.
Also has anyone tried the all natural rem. I search the web alot & found something called Migra-Lieve & Migracin Plus.
I would love any info anyone has to email me!!!!!

Hello to all of you sufferers. I guess that I am very fortunate. A few years ago I met up with a doctor who is very up-to-date on the treatment of migraine. His theory is that daily headaches should be treated as any other chronic pain. After doing a tremendous amount of research on this, I have found studies that say that persons who truly have severe pain typically do not become addicted to anything (even narcotics). I have found that it took trying several medications to find the right combo for me. I am very proud to say that my wonderful doctor and my great neurologist, I am basically pain free. I do not take narcotics on a daily basis (which used to be the only thing that worked). I think the most benificial drug is high dose Elavil (amytriptaline). The docs aren't sure what it does for pain, but take it from me, with the combo of the other meds, it does work. Best of luck to you all and I hope that you can find the right person to treat you. feel fre to email me if you have questions.

Hi all you sufferers,
I know how you feel. I am only 14 and have had migraines for about 3 amd a half years now. I get them about once a month, and your right they absolutly kill you. I get loads of symptoms including my body going numb, becoming half blinded, especially in my right eye, and chucking up all the time.(not to mention the piercing headache that makes your head wanna explode). None of my school mates seem to understand that they are nothing like a headache AT ALL! and they try and comfort me by saying auw, poor you, I get headaches all the time AAAAAARRGGGGG! It really ennoys me when you're in the middle of like a really important test, and then you get a migraine slap bang in the middle of it, so then you completely stuff up your test! I'm so glad that this site is set up, now there's finally somewhere where I can vent and you all understand! I know that 3 and a half years isn't really a long time to have suffered with migraines, compared with some of you poor guys out there, but I'm really fed up with them, so if any of you could tell me some kinda medicene that you think might help me or anything like that then I'd be really gratefull if you'd let me know. I'm only 14 so people don't really take me seriously and think I'm just faking it to get out of school, please help I don't want migraines taking over my WHOLE life as they already control it at the mo, cause every time I even get pins and needles I freak that I'm getting another migraine because they give me no warnings at all. The only time I know one's hit me is when I suddenly can't see! Thanx for listening,
hope you all have pain free dayz,
LUCY

I am a 43yr old mom of two who has been dealing with migraines for over 12years now. My headaches are very hormonal related and last for 3 solid days at a time. The only thing I found to work is excedrin but I worry about having taken it for so long. The doctor wants me to try Zomig. Has anyone found it to be effective?

My neurologist put me on Elavil to prevent any type of headache, tension, migraine. I get migraine with aura, migraine equivalent, and tension headaches almost every day. The Elavil seems to work so far. Its been almost nine days and no headache. I am watching any trigger. This has to work because now at 45 and post-menopausal, I can't even drive down the highway. The glare triggers a lace-type scotoma when I drive and my alertness goes out the window. Pretty scarey. I will let you know how the medicine works a week from now.

I am a 37 year old male who just had another migraine. Tunnel vision, pain, vomiting and then relief. I have had them since age 12, but haven't found what the trigger is outside of some obvious odor triggers. Thanks for reading this, it's nice to know that I'm not alone.
